The Merse Singers are still very much alive and kicking.  We will be starting rehearsals in the New Year on Monday, 9 January 2012, at our usual time, 7.15 pm, and venue, Paxton Village Hall.

At a Committee meeting held this 8 December with our new Musical Director, Veronica Gilbert, we decided to stage two concerts in the first half of 2012:

Easter Concert - Saturday, 31 March

At St Helen's Church Cornhill (to support their fabric fund - urgent repairs are required to the roof)

Programme - some items of sacred music sung at our 10 October 2011 concert plus parts or all of the Vivaldi Gloria and pieces from Folk Songs for Choirs

Summer Concert - Saturday, 16 June, at Hutton Church

Programme - Songs of a Rainbow Nation, folk songs and selected pieces from the Easter Concert

The programmes include music we have done before plus a variety of new music that will be interesting and challenging.  Veronica Gilbert suggested it would be a good idea to perform a "dress" rehearsal of the Summer Concert on Monday, 11 June.  This would give us a second chance to improve our performance!

Looking forward to meeting you all again on the 9 January.

Welcome to the Merse Singers!  We are a friendly mixed voice choir based on Paxton village in the Scottish Borders near Berwick upon Tweed.  We aim to sing a wide selection of music from traditional Baroque choral music  to madrigals, folk songs, show music and seasonal Christmas music.  A wide selection, which we all enjoy!  Our concert venues have varied from the stately homes of Paxton House and Marchmont to Alnwick Garden and village churches and Halls.
